Meter Fare Structure Effective 12/19/22
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) approved the first fare increase in ten years and it will go into effect on December 19, 2022. A taxicab or Street Hail Livery (SHL) may charge the increased rate of fare on December 19, 2022, provided that its meter is properly re-calibrated by a TLC- licensed taximeter shop with procedures set by the TLC Safety and Emissions Division.
The new Medallion Taxicab and Street Hail Livery (SHL) rates of fare for all metered trips will be as follows:
$3.00 The initial unit charge.
$1.00 The Taxicab and Street Hail Livery (SHL) Improvement
Surcharge.
$0.70 The additional unit charge. $2.50 The rush hour surcharge.
$1.00 The nighttime surcharge.
$70.00 The flat fare for all taxi trips between Manhattan and Kennedy Airport and all SHL trips from Manhattan to Kennedy Airport.
$5.00 The rush hour surcharge for Kennedy Airport taxi trips and SHL flat fares.
$5.00 A new surcharge for all taxi trips to and from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and all SHL trips to LGA hailed outside of the Hail Exclusionary Zone.
$20.00 The taxi surcharge for all trips to Newark Airport.
All taxicabs must have their re-calibrated taximeters mile-run by a TLC-licensed taximeter shop, in accordance with TLC’s Taxicab Owner Rules, §58-39(e) (1) before their first scheduled inspection after December 19, 2022. A list of all TLC-licensed public taximeter shops can be found below.
Rate cards for Medallions and Street Hail Liveries (SHLS) will be updated to reflect the new metered rate of fare.
For Medallions, a sticker overlay listing the new rates will be made available through TLC- licensed meter shops, agents, and taxicab industry organizations. The sticker overlay must be placed over the fare portion on current medallion rate cards expiring on October 31, 2023.
For SHLS, the TLC Woodside Inspection facility will provide a new rate card between December 19, 2022, and June 16, 2023, at the time of the scheduled inspection. Rate cards with an expiration date of October 31, 2022, are valid until the vehicle’s next scheduled inspection after December 19, 2022, or June 16, 2023, whichever comes first.
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission approved changes to its driver pay rules on November 15, 2022, raising the minimum rates of pay for drivers working for High-Volume For- Hire Services (Lyft & Uber). Under these new rules, the minimum per-minute rate will increase by 7.42% and the minimum per-mile rate will increase by 23.93%. Beginning December 19, 2022, High-Volume For-Hire Service drivers must be paid the following minimum pay rates:
For non-WAV trips in the city: 。 $0.567 per minute
